CMT’s zest invigorates the textile sector
While we don’t stop hearing that the textile industry is going through a tough time and that it will be hard to claw our way back again, one company is proving everybody wrong. And this brings hope to the whole sector.
The Compagnie Mauricienne de Textile (CMT), which celebrates its coming-of- age this week, has announced its intention to expand in the clothing industry. The company’s owners, François Woo, Louis Lai and Marie-Claire Woo, say the investment needed is Rs 500m. This expansion should create 1,500 jobs. This good news should comfort the number of people who have just lost their jobs following factory closures. CMT is officially opening a spinning unit in La Tour Koenig at the end of this week.
Chagossian delegation to meet Rammell in London
The leader of the group of Chagos refugees, Olivier Bancoult, is flying to London with a delegation on 16th November. He should meet the Undersecretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Bill Rammell. During this trip, the delegation should also participate in a few debates, including one at the House of Commons. The delegation also intends to protest in the streets of London like some Chagossians did in 10, Downing Street last week. They want to obtain the “full resident” status. Before going to Great Britain, Olivier Bancoult should work on the case to be submitted to the European Court of Human Rights concerning compensation to Chagossians and their right to return to their homeland.
Road kills five in Nouvelle-France
Eight men, aged between 21 and 40, were involved in a tragic road crash in Nouvelle-France. Five of them – Sachin Baldowa, Mahen Ruhee, Ruben Ayna, Vinaysing Seeruttun and Oomesh Goordoyal – died on the spot while the three others – Sanjay Seeruttun, Elvis Brunette and Rishi Goordoyal – are still in hospital. They are still in shock but their lives are not in danger. They should leave the hospital by the end of the week. For the moment, they don’t remember what happened but the police think the driver, Sachin Baldowa, may not have respected the speed limit.
With eight people in a double cab, it is hard to control the vehicle. The 2WD suddenly left the road and violently hit a big tree on the edge. Tests done on the driver may help shed some light on this dramatic event.
