Admirable?
by Deepa BHOOKHUN
The admirable people have been assured that they will have ?really free and fair elections.? The admirable people are glad. But the admirable people are a bit confused as to what the admirable government means by ?really free and fair? bearing in mind of course that we live in a democracy.
But how come the representatives of the admirable government are pretending to be shy and are shielding from public scrutiny? Why are they refusing to debate on issues that might interest the admirable people? Isn?t that what is done in a democracy?
Why is there a feeling that the admirable members of government may not be too keen to go and meet their admirable electorate? Oh but wait, they are, what am I talking about! They are holding meetings almost every night. A few days ago, there was to be a meeting in Plaine Verte held by the MSM-MMM and of course because we thought our duty is to enlighten the admirable people on the actions of those who aspire to get to power, we decided to attend. But then, we were later told that the meeting had been cancelled.
Can you imagine our surprise when we realized that the meeting did actually take place? And that the organizers deliberately lied to us because they didn?t want us there? Oh I wonder why? Would it be because they would have been holding speeches that would contradict their official ?clean? stand? Communal speeches? Oh it cannot be! I mean, Prakash Manthrooa said his party did not want to give the ?impression? they changed their discourse depending on the ethnic groups they were addressing. Impression, note. Need we say more?In any event, I then realized that the admirable members of government were not actually paralyzed by a newfound shyness. No, they had instead decided to be clever.
They do communicate you see. Did you not see the grand show of Education minister at the Octave Wiehé Auditorium the other day? Where civil servants said their ?duty was to liaise between the base and the ministry.? I?m sorry. Is that what civil servants are paid to do? You learn at any age they say?I suppose that?s what makes one admirable? What did the admirable PM say? Oh ?really? free and fair elections. How can we doubt the words of a Prime minister? And it?s not as if they?ve lied to us before, is it? But, sshhh! Let?s not say anything more or we might lose the privilege of being called stupid? err sorry, admirable?
