Although the family institution has lost some of its aura and is going through a bad phase, last Sunday, Family Day was happily celebrated at the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens. This special day, organised by the ministry of Women’s rights, Child development and Family welfare, managed to unite adults and children in harmony around various activities such as face painting, a kite-making competition, treasure hunts and much more. These kept the younger ones happy whilst their parents enjoyed the music of the local group “Menwar”. Today, the rush to start a family has a direct influence on the quality of family life. Many young parents are not mature enough for this stage of life and many children are left to fend for themselves. The challenge is to find properly trained people to help them and eventually homes to welcome neglected children.
