Thousands of Hindu pilgrims have been walking to Grand-Bassin during the week. After the long trek, pilgrims carry out rituals before bringing home some water from Ganga Talao.

Today, they celebrate Maha Shivaratree with their relatives and will take part in the prayers celebrating the glorious night of Shiva!

It was the end of anxiety for all students who had sat for the higher school certificate (HSC) in 2006, as they obtained their results on Monday. 31 laureates will receive a study grant form the state. Like every year, Queen Elizabeth College tops the list with 13 laureates. Royal College of Curepipe and St-Esprit College are among the boys? schools with the biggest number of laureates.

About 400 Sri Lankan workers employed by the Compagnie mauricienne de textile (CMT), one of the jewels of the industry, have been on strike for about ten days. They are complaining about their long working hours ? about 315 hours a month ? and asking for a wage increase up to Rs 6,800. After long nights spent under the stars, they finally agreed to go back to their dormitories on Wednesday night. Although some are said to have accepted to resume work, the great majority are still insisting to go home!
