At home, back in San Francisco, Greg Grewell led a non-stop life with a stressful job and he just wanted to ?get out of the rat race?. Music had always been his passion and was going to become his way out, the key to his new life. Quitting your real job and making a living out of your hobby sounds quite satisfying, but there has to be some work involved. So, Greg started out by playing at several venues and even performed on the MBC. Eventually, he wanted a place of his own because he was short of venues. The Banana Bar came on the market at a well-timed moment and Greg seized the opportunity and took it over. He was going to be able to strum away under a palm tree in his very own social venue without getting tomatoes chucked at him! What more could he ask for? It was his dream fulfilled! A dream come true on a heavenly island, but no dream comes true without some effort: Greg is actively involved in the running of the Beach club and renovates regularly.

Our very own American musician is taken aback by the splendour of our island and all its natural beauty. He makes the most of the marine beauty while scuba diving in the deep blue Indian Ocean, his favourite spots being Ile-aux-Cerfs and Mahebourg. He has fallen in love and he?ll be staying here for good; although he says he is still adapting, he feels ?a sense of community and being?. He is still learning about Mauritian culture but he has just one little problem? He hasn?t mastered French yet! When asked whether he speaks the language, he chuckles!

According to Greg, the choice of films and concerts here is limited, but that could also be a little excuse for him to put up so many gigs in his bar! ?We celebrate everything at the Banana Club, it?s a good excuse to play and to party!? Greg?s new lifestyle seems to have transformed him into the easygoing type, and it suits him. The Hawaiian style shirt and the serene smile on his face whilst happily chatting away makes him a pleasant person to talk to. I couldn?t imagine him differently! His image corresponds perfectly to that of his beach club ? cool and relaxed.

The whole project is his ?pet project? and, if he had to leave Mauritius tomorrow, not only would it be heartbreaking to leave it behind, but when asked what he would miss most, he simply replied: ?I would miss it all! I don?t know how else I could answer that question.
