In brief
Lady Di. Family ?shocked and sickened? by CBS photos. The family of Britain?s Princess Diana said yesterday it was ?shocked and sickened? by a US television network?s decision to show pictures of her taken as she lay dying in a Paris road tunnel. Even prime minister Tony Blair weighed in to denounce the pictures. A peaceful-looking Diana was shown lying on her right side in a black and white photocopy of a photograph confiscated from paparazzi by French authorities and included in a secret dossier obtained by CBS News ?48 Hours Investigates? programme.
Jackie Collins. Author, Grande dame and diva. ?Most men are dogs,? she sniffs. ?There are some nice dogs and some really nasty dogs. But you get the good ones ? the faithful that hang around and treat you well and you treat them well ? and that?s it.? She should know: she?s Jackie Collins, empress of raunch and best-selling author who can lay claim to having 400 million copies of her books sold in more than 40 countries.
Actor Spacey. Dogged by pre-dawn UK ?mugging?. US actor Kevin Spacey, who made headlines this week by claiming he was mugged walking his dog at 4 a.m. in a London park, and then changed his story to having fallen for a con to steal his phone, laughed the incident off yesterday. At a news conference to announce the agenda for his first season as artistic director of London?s Old Vic theatre, he said it had all been a plan to help beleaguered England soccer captain Beckham.
Mr Bean. Star wins damages over depression slur. British comic actor Rowan Atkinson won ?substantial damages? from a newspaper group yesterday over claims he was ?heading for a breakdown.? The Mr Bean and Johnny English star sued Associated Newspapers, publishers of the Mail on Sunday and Daily Mail, over articles, which claimed he was receiving treatment for depression in a US clinic.
