Recently the truth surfaced. A group of female employees working for a major textile factory in the south of the island have been subjected to on-going sexual harassment. Sadly, the victims? first two attempts to put a stop to these abominable acts where tainted by one of the company?s senior managers... It turns out that the culprit?s good track record in delivering desirable results which were in line with the company?s ambitions got the best of the management team. The leader of this enterprise was faced with a tough situation; either act immediately or condemn his factory manager for sexually harassing - physically & morally - his fellow employees or turn a blind eye. Being a savvy businessman, his decision making was based on the opportunity cost analysis. The opportunity cost of taking a firm line of action to condemn sexual harassment was way too high and therefore profit and performance won over reason. Let?s hope other Mauritian business leaders would act differently.
