For the sake of all patients undergoing surgery or admitted for other reasons, could you please publish this letter, as well as on your Web site, for the attention of the Ministry of Health ? Thank you.

Most patients complain of lots of noise in the ward caused by rattling sound of trolleys, staff talking aloud and radio is loud. It si very distressing indeed. The ward looks dirty, with plenty of microorganisms. Moreover, the toilets are not clean and most of the time not in good working order. The staffs are fine but do not look as true professionals especially the domestic servants (uniforms are paid by the ministry !) and some arrogant nurses who smoke in the ward. The equipments seem to be old-fashioned and not well maintained/cleaned. Horrible ! What is more important for us is privacy. We do not feel that we are dealt with in privacy: consultation in the ward, wound dressings, nurses read out our names and age aloud, etc. Our folders contain lots of information but are handed and read by everyone, even domestic servants ! It has happened that some people from outside know everything that patients have undergone through domestic servants. We recommend that only nurses or doctors handle our folders. Domestic servants must not read our notes. We want staff to treat us as human beings and not as objects. Our names must be called with respect. Nurses are very busy and they do not have time to listen what we have to say.

They work like robots, without talking to us as asking us politely. For instance, they ordered us to have a bath. But instead they could have politely asked us to go and take a bath. After the treatment, we are not invited to comment on the service offered to us: a sort of evaluation forms on discharge do not exist. Why? Why doesn?t the ministry carry a monthly or regular survey to know if we are satisfied about the service and what improvemens we would like to make to improve the service ? We patients would be very happy if nurses/officers from the ministry come in with evaluation forms and ask us about the service: are we satisfied or not. It is time for management at the Moka Eye Hospital to realize this. Most of us are very angry at the number of days making us to wait for eye surgery. Even a single appointment is made months after. Please help us poor people.
