Zero tolerance on the roads
Drivers will have to be very careful these days. To prevent tragedies during the festive season, the police have intensified road checks. By being more severe against those using mobiles while driving or driving under the influence of alcohol, the police want to make people more responsible by protecting themselves as well as others on the roads. Their presence is clearly visible near bars, pubs and nightclubs. Officers of the Traffic Branch, the SOS RSU and the Emergency Response Unit have been deployed on the roads since last week.
On the first day of these checks (last Wednesday), the police caught four drivers under the influence of alcohol. To make sure the citizens avoid risky behaviours, the police want them to be aware of the checks and do everything to avoid being trapped – that is drive safely. Since the beginning of the year, 122 people have been killed on the roads including eight since the beginning of December. The objective is clear: make sure everyone enjoys a pleasant end-of-year.
