Dream-Bridge to ease access to harbour
The idea goes back several years but it seems the Chinese could make it a reality. The chairman of the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA), Siddick Chady, is happy to see that his project may finally be implemented. The Dream Bridge is expected to facilitate the transport of goods to or from the port. “Traffic jams will get worse as the volume of goods processed by the port increases, so a bridge is becoming a necessity,” says the MPA chairman. The institution has requested financial aid from the Chinese for its project that is estimated to cost between Rs 2.5 and Rs 3 billion. “We hope construction will start at the end of the year,” he said. This overhead bridge will connect Les Salines to Roche-Bois. Not only is it expected to reduce traffic on the motorway but it is also hoped it will give a special cachet to the harbour with its distinctive architecture.
