<B>Tips on MCB hold-up point at Sambacaille </B>

The police are certain that new information on the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) hold-up will help them catch the main suspect. Last week, they questioned Lee Feng on her relationship with Laval Sambacaille, thought to be responsible for killing Gérard Lagesse on that 11th February before leaving with nearly all the proceeds of the hold-up. Although Lee Feng denied even knowing the suspect, the police have obtained “useful information”.

“I can say the net is closing around this suspect,” superintendent Prem Raddhoa confided. Lee Feng was allowed to go home after having been questioned.

Police do not charge Requin</B>

The conflict between Philippe Requin and his former associates, the Bhunjun family, has taken a new turn. Salt Lake Resorts, the owner of Voile d’Or Hotel had accused the manager of Elegant Heritage, which managed Voile d’Or, of blocking the hotel reservation system. Philippe Requin, who was sacked because he is said to have mismanaged the company, has been to the police to prove he had nothing to do with these matters and the police have finally decided not to charge him with any offence or crime. Philippe Requin is convinced that his former partners wanted to tarnish his reputation and intends to sue the company for compensation. Voile d’Or is now managed by the international firm, Möwenpick.

Is it Gervigny’s body?</B>

Gérard Gervigny, Mr Mauritius in the seventies, disappeared some two weeks ago. A body was found in Albion a few days later but whether it is that of Gérard Gervigny is unsure. Relatives and friends have failed to reach a definite conclusion as the body is in a state of decomposition. The overall physical description corresponds to the former Mr Mauritius but the clothes found near the body but are apparently not his. The forensic scientist has recommended DNA testing.

Website to share fasting period</B>

The holy month of Ramadan has started. This year, people from all over the world can have a look at the major events of Ramadan thanks to a new website set up by the managing committee of the Jummah Mosque, www.jummahmasjid.org. 239,856 people had already visited the site on 7th October. The first objectives of the web site are to broadcast the weekly Jummah prayer and the daily Taraweeh prayer. But it is also to “open up to Non-Muslims, too, so as to depict the true essence of Islam as a universal religion preaching peaceful coexistence, tolerance, solidarity and love”. During Ramadan there will also be talks by different lecturers on several topics.
