It has been 13 ? years since I have been in Mauritius. In the beginning, it was really difficult to adopt to the cultures and views but now I like Mauritius very much. When I came here, Ayurvedic medecine was quite easy to start because of a law, which the government had passed. I had a very good experience here. I?m very happy and satisfied that I had the ground to expose my abilities.

Concerning the culture and lifestyle here, the Mauritians do somewhat follow Indian culture. Here it?s a mixture of several cultures and religions. In India, you have to go to another state to find a different culture but here, you go to your neighbour?s place and it?s a different culture. Mauritians are very practical people. They do things convenient to them whether right or wrong. People change and adopt new cultures so that the culture does not go from generation to generation. The culture of the next generation won?t be the same.

Mauritius is a very small country but the problem for the youth is very big. With the mixture of cultures, I?m afraid for the security of my children. Mauritius is very ?out-spoken?. There is also a great exposure to drugs, smoking and alcohol. The attraction to opposite sex also is greater. You have to be cautious.

Here we can only go to the seaside. If you go to relatives? place, you have to call and inform them that you are coming at their place. It?s more of a formal relation here. It?s not a strong bond. What I dislike here is the ?gossiping culture?. The clothing also is very difficult to adopt. It is difficult to accept European style. On the health issue, it?s difficult to find strong people. All things are fast and ready-made. We need to avoid fast-food because we are what we eat.
