Tight budget on the horizon
Pravind Jugnauth looks quite confident about his first budget speech as minister of Finance next Friday. All his collaborators are working with him to polish the last details of the budget. The minister of Finance has already stated his intention: reducing the budget deficit. ?People should not expect a no-tax budget,? he declared. The international context worldwide and the difficulties in certain sectors ? such as textile and sugar ? will not allow ?generosity? regarding the budget. The taxpayers will have to make an effort to pay more direct or indirect taxes. As for the private sector, it hopes that the new budget will help boost investment.
