To the rhythm of hoof beats...
Some will now live according to the rhythm of their bets… The beating of their hearts will match the galloping of the horses. The horseracing season was launched last Saturday at the Champ de Mars to the delight of many gamblers and a few horse-lovers. In the highly electric atmosphere that will prevail in the country – with the political rallies linked to Labour Day and more generally the coming general elections – horseracing could be the only way for citizens to have a break from politics. Some gamblers will go home very happy while other families will sink into misery and despair. One thing is certain, horseracing is deep-rooted in our traditions and is part of Mauritian culture. The “regulars” will keep on going to the Champ-de-Mars nearly every week until December and will gradually make their choice regarding their favourite for the season… Except for the more stubborn ones who will stick to the same horse as last year!
