<B>Arab leaders to relaunch peace offer to Israel </B>
Arab leaders will urge Israel yesterday to accept a five-year-old peace initiative to end the Arab-Israeli conflict at the core of the region?s problems. The two-day Arab summit, which ended yesterday, has drawn world and Muslim leaders who backed the Arab plan offering Israel normal ties with all Arab countries in return for its withdrawal from land occupied in the 1967 Middle East war. The plan also calls for the creation of a Palestinian state and a ?just solution? for Palestinian refugees.
<B>China mine blast kills at least 19 - Xinhua </B>
A gas explosion killed at least 19 Chinese miners and seven were missing, Xinhua reported yesterday, the latest in a grim series of colliery accidents as the country struggles to meet demand for fuel. It was the second gas explosion in the northern province of Shanxi in 10 days. Twenty-one miners were killed in a blast on March 18.
<B>China confirms human death from bird flu </B>
A teenage boy has died after falling ill with the bird flu virus, Chinese state media reported yesterday, confirming the country?s third case of human infection from the virus so far this year. The 16-year-old student from Bengbu in eastern China?s rural Anhui province died late on Tuesday, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a provincial health official. The boy was admitted to hospital on March 18 after falling ill with a fever and signs of pneumonia.
Death and carnage in Somalia as rebels attacked </B>
Helicopters and tanks pounded rebel positions across Mogadishu yesterday as allied Ethiopian and Somali troops launched a major push to end a bloody insurgency, with at least 11 civilians reported killed. With scenes of carnage shocking even by Mogadishu standards, residents said the final death-toll could be much higher.
Gas explosion kills one, injures 11 at Turk hotel </B>
A gas tank exploded in the kitchen of a five-star hotel at a popular Turkish holiday resort yesterday, killing one person and injuring 11 others, a spokeswoman for the local governor said.
The dead man was a hotel worker. A Russian tourist, a Norwegian holidaymaker and nine Turks were being treated in nearby hospitals for minor injuries, she said.
<B>Myanmar bus accidents kill 18 people </B>
At least 18 people were killed in two bus accidents in Myanmar, an official newspaper reported yesterday.
Ten passengers were killed and 25 injured when a bus collided head on with a truck near Bago, about 80 km (50 miles) north of Yangon on Tuesday, the Myanma Ahlin Daily said. On the same day, eight people were killed and 37 injured when a bus plunged into a ravine after its brakes failed near Taunggyi in the Shan state hills 725 km (450 miles) north of Yangon, it said.
The tolls were expected to rise as some survivors were in critical condition.
Russia abused freed Guantanamo inmates-rights group </B>
Former Russian Guantanamo Bay inmates were beaten and abused after the United States handed them over to Russia in 2004, Human Rights Watch said yesterday.
