The appointment of a new prime minister in Nepal this week would not solve a deep political crisis in the country, which is already reeling from a bloody Maoist rebellion, the biggest political party said yesterday. The Maoists themselves have also rejected the appointment of the 57-year-old Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister, saying it would only exacerbate a civil war which is thought to have cost 9,500 lives since 1996. Nepal?s King Gyanendra appointed Deuba Prime Minister on Wednesday, reinstating a man who he sacked two years before in a move which sparked a constitutional crisis and set the king on a collision course with the country?s political parties.
