The ?hot water? Conspiracy
If you?ve been walking around a little ?pink? around the edges, there?s a good chance you still haven?t figured out how to use the electric water heater that?s found in your shower in Mauritius!
Well, I can prove that the engineers of these units are secretly giggling behind closed doors! It?s high time that engineers acknowledged that some of us are conceptually challenged when it comes to the logic of engineering and physics. You?ve no doubt noticed that these unassuming electric water heaters don?t come with instructions ? thereby I rest my case!
What are tourists supposed to do? Walk around dirty? (You?ll notice that many of these units have a ?made in England? sticker on them, but I won?t go into that?)
The following are THE instructions to get that heater working and working properly.
-
First pull the string that hangs from the ceiling. (An orange light should go on indicating that the unit has been turned on). Get into the shower stall.
-
There are two dials on the face of the heater. The top dial indicates the pressure of the water coming out of the shower head. One single line is gentle pressure, two lines medium pressure and three lines means you?d be satisfied with the Niagara Falls.
-
The lower dial shows the water temperature you?d like. This is indicated starting from number one (thin blue line) which is the lowest setting. The lines get thicker from 2 up and as the line colour indicates, the water gets warmer and warmer and then hot. Choose a number and turn the dial to it.
-
Turn on the water faucet located directly below the unit.
-
You?re in business.
When you?re done, simply turn off the water faucet. Pulling the string to close the unit off is optional. Otherwise, each time you get into the shower, all you have to do is turn on the faucet and your water will be heated to the same perfect temperature each time. (Avoid changing the dials while you are showering to avoid electric shock).
Cut out the directions listed above and tape them to the back of your loofa mitt for easy reference. Although there?ll be a few engineers walking around grumpy... there?ll be a lot more tourists walking around cleaner!
Happy Vacationing!
