Hope returns for sick child
?Thanks to the MCIT, maybe my son will be saved ?. These words are Mohammud Abdullah Lazer?s after getting back his 4-year-old son?s medical file containing all the information concerning Ali?s abdominal cancer.
Last week, the Major Crimes Investigation Team (MCIT) managed to lay their hands on the precious stolen document and handed it over to the parents. Thanks to this, the Lazers can again cherish the hope of seeing their child Ali being cured in India.
The facts date back to very late July. After a first examination in India, which cost Rs 200 000, Ali?s parents needed Rs 150 000 more so that the little boy could undergo a new course of chemotherapy. An amount of money they did not have. They thus decided to launch a campaign to collect the money.
A few days later, a man came to the Lazers? home, pretending to be a doctor and promising to treat their son in a clinic in England.
The hopeful parents entrusted the medical file to the so-called doctor?s orderly as well as Rs 80 000, the amount of money they had managed to collect to cure their child. It was only after trying unsuccessfully to reach the man on his mobile for hours that Ali?s father realized they had been swindled. ?This ill-intentioned person took advantage of our weakness to rob us,? said Mohammud when interviewed at the beginning of August.
Even if the money is still missing, the loss of the file was, so far, their main concern. Hope revived as travel agency Skyline, moved by the little boy?s plight, gave them two plane tickets Mauritius-Delhi-Mauritius.
Concerning the main suspect, Anand Kissoon - already sentenced for twelve previous similar offences - a major police search is still under way.
