The end of an injustice for Anfen pupils
A battle against prejudice has been won! Cabinet has finally agreed to the free travel scheme being extended to adolescents following courses organised by the Adolescents Non-Formal Education Network (ANFEN). Since free transport was granted to students, the network has been fighting to obtain the same rights for their students. The latter may not be part of the mainstream of secondary education but they go to school like any other students. ANFEN caters for pupils who have failed the Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) several times and who can?t adapt to the traditional system. They are taught how to read, write and count with patience and care by teachers of the sixteen centres. The pupils often come from the poorest family circles and excluding them from the free transport scheme was one more reason for them to feel left out by society. Last month, some of them went to the prime minister?s office to hand over a petition asking for the right to travel free and not to be thrown out by bus-conductors. Their determination has finally been rewarded and justice has been done: the ones who needed free transport the most have finally obtained it!
