Code of ethics for journalists, a first!
The first code of ethics for a press group saw the light of day on Friday morning. It was published as a supplement in both Sunday?s and Monday?s editions for the public to see the mindset of each journalist working at La Sentinelle Ltd. The principles contained in the code have always been the characteristics of the journalists of the group but there may have been a need to publish it for the public to be convinced that the objective of the press is to defend them through the search for truth. In view of the bad image the government is trying to convey of the press, such a code may reassure them on our good faith. These are not guidelines imposed by the authorities but principles by which the group has always stood. The Association of Journalists and the association of directors and editors-in-chief that is in the making are positive moves by the media profession. Hopefully this first code could serve as a model for a national code for the whole profession in the future?
