Road infrastucture improvement
Regarding the plan to reduce traffic congestion in Port Louis, when will the government ?redresse? La Poudriere Street? This busy road is in a mess, as the absence of appropriate footpaths force pedestrians to walk on the road, causing delays to vehicles and increasing risks of accidents. The dirty open canals especially near the cinema cause further nuisance. Also, of what use is the open canal at Volcy Pougnet Street? Why doesnt the road authorities cast concrete slabs on this wide canal and thus not only widen the street, but also create additional parking spaces for surrounding businesses and residence and for those going to the Dr Jeetoo hospital, and most important of all, create a space for pedestrians? A lane could also be created on the canal at Labourdonnais junction to facilitate vehicles turning left, thus leaving the road free for vehicles going straight or turning right towards Mgr Leen. Covering the canal will save the Port Louis Municipality a lot, in terms of money and human resources currently needed to clean the canal and remove illegal dumping of waste, and also increase passengers? space and lengthen bus layby in front of Dr Jeetoo hospital. There is no need to conduct expensive surveys and hire high profile consultants to come up with ideas that improve traffic management. Local citizens have far better ideas. Just listen to them!
