Plumes engagées
A soul unheld
■ Aayushi Modhyni Doorgasing.
À l’heure du tout à l’image et du buzz sans suite, «l’express» souhaite faire découvrir la plume de poètes, de chanteurs, d’écrivains et de tous ceux qui jettent leur âme sur le papier, et qui mettent en mots des réflexions profondes.
I once tried to hold you like sand,
my fingers locking tight to keep you near.
But the firmer I grasped,
the faster you spilled through my palms,
leaving me with nothing but the ghost of
your weight.
I realised then that my hunger to hold you
was the very thing causing you to slip away.
Now, I have stepped back into the shade.
You are the flower - a bloom so rare and
fragile that the mere thought of my touch
brings a shiver of fear; the fear that I might
bruise a single petal or cause
your spirit to fray.
I have come to recognise that you were
never meant for my thorns.
I am the Watcher,
standing in the abyss,
finding my only joy in the sight
of your growth.
I am the Shadow,
the cool dark that protects you from
the searing sun.
My soul no longer seeks rest in your arms,
but finds its peace in the scent -
the lingering fragrance you leave upon
the wind.
You stand so vibrant in the light,
A bloom the world was meant to see;
And though I ache for you everyday and night,
I know you cannot grow with me.
I watch you flourish from the gloom,
A silent ghost within the trees; I dare not
touch your velvet bloom,
Lest you should scatter in the breeze.
I water you with hidden tears,
From depths where sunbeams never shine,
To calm your thirst and soothe your fears,
While knowing you will ne’er be mine.
I’d deck your brow with all I own,
And shield your heart from every thorn,
But I must love you - still, alone
Between the midnight and the morn.
To breathe your scent is rest enough,
To see you whole is my reward;
For you are made of finer stuff than any
love I could afford.
