The Director of Public Prosecutions (the Appellant) must be congratulated for taking action on the judgement given by “Her Honour, the President of the Intermediate Court (Criminal Side) on 24th April (CN 232/2015);” and has taken Notice “that the Appellant, is feeling himself aggrieved by and dissatisfied with judgement delivered, whereby:

  1. The sentence imposed by the learned Magistrate was unduly lenient and wrong in principle.
  2. The learned Magistrate fell into error when she failed to make a distinction between the pleas of guilty of the accused (Joseph Marie Michel DE RAVEL DE L’ARGENTIERE)”

Joseph Marie Michel DE RAVEL DE L’ARGENTIERE who was accused of several cases of pedophilias on our children was set free on the grounds of health.

What about the health of all the victims? Were they taken into consideration when the aggressor was set free? The victims might never be able to reconstruct their lives after what they have been through. Will they get appropriate psychological support? What message are we giving to all the rapists and the pedophilias? What message are we giving to all those who have the courage to break the silence? So many questions that have remained unanswered.

News travel fast. Mauritius is known to be a platform for drugs. Are we now a platform for sexual perverts?

Thank you, Director of Public Prosecutions. You give us hope. With you we can, at least, see some light at the end of this long and black tunnel. Your position is giving hope to the whole Mauritian population.
