China Southern Airlines lands in Mauritius

At 5.30 am today, over 260 Chinese nationals arrived aboard the China Southern Airlines on its  debut flight to Mauritius. The travellers boarded  the plane in the city of Shenzhen. This is the first international airline to serve Mauritius and China, and  also the first Chinese airline to connect China to Africa.

 

Air Mauritius meanwhile has 8 flights scheduled per week to China and is about to add another direct flight to Beijing.

 

Chinese tourists travelling to Mauritius have been growing rapidly: in 2011 it was a little over 15,000, in 2012 the number was around 20,000,and 2014  clocked over 41,000 travellers. The projection for 2014 has been fixed to 80,000 travellers.
