Obstruction of passage by street vendors
We, the force vive of Curepipe have noted with mush concern the difficulties of pedestrians, market stall holders of Curepipe market, food court, and nearby shops owners. We have been informed that several verbal complaints had been addressed to the market inspectors, yet the situation is still the same.
The passage from the toilet of Ian Palach North to Arcade Salafa, and the passage along Ian Palach bus terminal are being obstructed by hawkers (street vendors). People are getting difficulties in walking along the street to the bus terminal, especially when buses overtake. Some hawkers have placed their articles almost on the street, covering the drain, and the double yellow line.
The passage for pedestrians is also obstructed by parking of vehicles on the pavement, and double yellow line by the side of the market near the toilet.
Luckily the authority reacted to the problem of vehicles which were found to be parked by the roundabout situated between the two bus terminals, hindering the view of drivers coming from Curepipe Road negociating the roundabout. A site visit will prove all what is being said.
As we are all aware, a few years back, a fatal accident took place at the Ian Palach North bus terminal. So, it would be much appreciated that urgent actions be taken to avoid a further casualty and to keep up the name of the Ville Lumière.
The situation which prevails now was not found before. However, it is with great regrets to mention that the irresponsibility (laissez-aller) of the authority concern may cause much harm to the public. Some time back, the police was seen to be active and the situation was under control, the passage was freed. But now it seems, neither the police nor the municipal inspector is able to prevent those people to park their vehicles by the side of the market, on the pavement, and also prevent the sellers to put their articles on the street opposite the Ian Palach North bus terminal.
May the people of the town see a better day, where they can walk freely, and being safe.
