?The recommendation won?t do the job for you?
?I have been in Mauritius for quite a few times. I really like the familial atmosphere and family ties, which exist here. Here you can go to your relatives? place at any time and it?s not like in Canada where you need to take an appointment before going to visit someone. I like the ?dialogue culture? that Mauritians have. They like to meet people, especially in the evenings and have a chat. People do socialize a lot and they also help each other a lot. In other countries, people don?t help you unless you are a member of their family or a relative. Though it is a multiracial country, the way each community lives peacefully with another makes Mauritius a unique country.
However, I have noticed that here, it is quite easy to bribe people, especially at the airport. There is a lot of smuggling which is done through the ports. If you want to have a document, you can easily bribe someone to make your work go faster or even to make fake papers or certificates for you.
However, the amount of insecurity and crime rates are on the rise in the country. Today you can?t roam carefree. There?s always a risk of theft or rape attempts. I think that the security aspect must be improved in Mauritius. The policemen and security officers need to be more qualified. I once asked a policeman for some information and I was surprised that he was not able to understand whatever I was asking him. You can?t recruit anyone to provide security services.
Here also, I have noticed that if you have some political backings or some recommendations, you can easily get a job, whether you are qualified or not. But when it is time to deliver the services that you are paid for, the recommendation won?t do the job for you! This is where many fail.
Besides recruiting qualified persons, there must be proper training and proper equipment to protect themselves first and to protect others, have good communication skills and the ability to respond efficiently in emergency situations. They must have a ?standing order?, that is a set of rules and regulations, a code of ethics on how to respond in particular situations and about their limitations.?
