?HSC students should find the right balance between dreams and realities.?
?In my work I very often meet students who are about to complete their HSC and, afterwards, I get the opportunity to meet the same people again. In fact, before their HSC, some are full of expectations and dream about being laureate to get a scholarship. Thereafter, when the results come out, some of those who were dreaming about being laureate end up having very good results, but not good enough to earn them the reward of being laureate. As a result they are very disappointed despite having got very good results. The biggest problem that young people have to face when they are disappointed is when they have to come down to earth and think logically about what the other opportunities are. When you think about it, you realize that, among those kids, there are some who will still be able to go for their studies abroad and others that will not be able to.
I think it is very sad for those who expected to be laureate and get a scholarship that would allow them to continue their education abroad. They would have worked so hard and in the end they would not have got what they wanted.
To be honest, I believe the whole system is responsible for this. I am not saying it is unfair, because no matter where you go, you will face stiff competition. So I think it is up to every student to learn how to get that right balance between their dreams and realities. If you are able to find this balance, you will get there! I think this is where Mauritian people are wrong. You can dream about something; but you have to remain realistic. If people can find that balance, I am sure Mauritius might be a lot better off.
In other words, those doing their HSC should still be working whilst giving the best of themselves. But they must realize that they might have to aim for their goals in a different way. Sadly enough, I know some cases where kids aim for something and they do not manage to achieve their goals. Once they find out about it, they just throw everything away and give up. They should not give up, but instead, they should keep aiming!?
