CEO Bhadain urged to explain
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Business Parks of Mauritius Ltd (BPML), Chand Bhadain, is in the limelight. Questioned by the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) last Wednesday, he denied any responsibility in the mismanagement of BPML pointed at in the report of the Fact-Finding Committee (FFC). This questioning was not done under warning, which tends to indicate that Chand Bhadain is not considered as a suspect in this case.
He made it clear that the invitations to tender as well as the allocation of contracts and the construction of flats in the cyber village had all been done before his appointment at the head of the company. Hence, he denied any relation with alleged embezzlements in the management of BPML when he was confronted with some extracts from the FFC report.
In the latter, Harris Balgobin and his assessors say that the construction of the cyber village was the subject of extravagant expenses. Chand Bhadain also had to give some details on the way the company and its subsidiaries were working.
But the CEO of BPML had been in the limelight even before being questioned by the CCID. Rumour was rife that he had submitted his resignation – one of the recommendations of the FFC report – but he has refused to confirm or deny this.
