Dadi Janki, an 88 year old ?spiritual lighthouse? and member of the United Nations? prestigious Wisdom Keepers arrived in Mauritius last Sunday to participate in the Rainbow celebration and a conference on living values and tolerance at the Grand Baie conference centre.

Dadi Janki met leaders of the major religions of the country yesterday at the Brahma Kumari centre of Quatre Bornes. Maulanas, the Bishop of Port Louis and heads of many Hindu religious groups were present.

Born in India in 1916, Dadi Janki survived poverty, war and severe illness, to rise above the restrictions of culture, gender and a lack of formal education. She has dedicated the last seven decades to serving humanity through the Brama Kumaris particularly.

Based in London, Dadi Janki seeks not so much to change people but to provide a model of spirituality. She has written numerous books and her words of wisdom are world famous.

Propagating spirituality and meditation among people of different ethnic groups, religions and cultures, Dadi Janki writes in one of her books: ?A spiritual path is like a school. Not a regular school where you learn ordinary skills, but a spiritual school where you learn the skills of the spirit: like how to remove flaws in your character, or how to remain unaffected by the negative influences around you.?

Elected ?most stable mind of the world? by the Americans, Dadi Janki will be conducting spiritual classes every morning at 6 am at the Brahma Kumari centre in Quatre-Bornes. She is leaving Mauritius on Thursday.
