<B>USA. Ashcroft and Evans resign from Bush Cabinet.</B>US Attorney General John Ashcroft,and Commerce Secretary Donald Evans resigned on Tuesday. Ashcroft a lightning rod of criticism by civil liberties groups for his anti-terror policies after the Sept. 11 attacks and who once even ordered the robing of two partially nude statues in his department, resigned on Tuesday. Evans was seen as proponent of controversial tariffs that Bush imposed on steel imports early in his administration, and a proponent for removing them after the World Trade Organization ruled they were illegal and the European Union threatened to retaliate.

Police fear mob war as three die in Naples. </B>The bullet-ridden bodies of three men were found in a car in Naples on Tuesday as police and government chiefs held emergency meetings over how to combat a mob turf battle in the southern Italian city. The car was found close to the site of a suspected hit by the Naples version of the Mafia – the Camorra – at the weekend which killed a 25-year-old man and wounded five people. With more than 230 murders linked to organised crime between 1999 and 2003, the Mediterranean port city has earned the dubious distinction of being Italy’s homicide capital. Police chiefs warned the situation risked getting out of control.
<B> JAPAN. Navy chases unknown submarine out of waters.</B> A Japanese navy aircraft chased an unidentified submarine out of waters near Japan’s Okinawa island chain yesterday in a rare display of the country’s military capability, long constrained by a pacifist constitution. Several Japanese destroyers had also been dispatched to the area. “It is regrettable. It is certainly not a good thing that an unidentified submarine entered our country’s territorial waters,” Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi told reporters. Apart from China, other navies in the area with submarines include North Korea, South Korea and Taiwan.
