I was very sorry to hear about the blast that killed two people in Grand-Baie. I have been following the events since it happened as I am a Forensic science student.

The one thing that has annoyed and irritated me (as a member of the Mauritian society) is the presence of the FBI on the crime scene. Why does the FBI need to be involved in this case? I am aware of the different departments and services we have in Mauritius to deal with this kind of event.

The Forensic Science Laboratory, the SOCO and members of the police force are well qualified to deal with such a case. The Government spends a lot of money sending these people abroad for training in different fields so that they are competent to deal with such situations.

It is a shame to see that the government does not have enough faith and confidence in our officers. On any legal or jurisdiction aspect, why should the FBI get involved with this case?

They seem to be everywhere and get in everybody else’business. They were not competent enough to deal with the crisis in their own country.Wherever the US sets foot, there is trouble!

It’s about time the government started to have more confidence in its own departments mentioned above, to invest a bit more money in them and see the results. And when they get the results, they can proudly say it’s all made in Mauritius.
