■ <B> RACE 1 – THE SUSIE FREEMAN TROPHY</B>

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Championchallange was lame on the off fore leg and was unfit to race. Consequently, the horse was withdrawn at 8 a.m. on Friday. As a result, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened. With the withdrawal of Championchallange, National Express became a runner and was ridden by apprentice B. Bhaugeerothee. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Spirit was coughing and was unfit to race. Consequently, the horse was withdrawn at 8 a.m. today. As a result, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened. Trainers S. Henry and C. Ramdin were told that their respective horses will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. Jockey Venkaya, who was unable to make the correct weight on Blessed Arabian, was replaced by jockey Naiko. At an inquiry, jockey Venkaya pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 53 (A) (e) in that he was unable to ride at the minimum weight of 54.5 kg. He was fined Rs 5,000. At the start Simply Green was slow out, losing about one length. Passing the 1300 metres Green Zappa stumbled slightly off the heels of Harbour Bridge, which had shifted in. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Joorawon stated that with National Express on his outside which, to his knowledge, hangs in badly in races, he anticipated and took his mount in. The Stewards agreed that National Express had a tendency to hang in badly and thus warned jockey Joorawon on this occasion and told him to always make sure he is clear before shifting ground. From the 1100 to the 1000 metres, when the pace slowed, Foxies Chord started racing fiercely and had to be eased off the heels of National Express.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Tickle My Cluster, Foxies Chord and Tabasheer prior to the race and from National Express after the race.

■ RACE 2 – THE J. HENRY YTHIER CBE CUP</B>

At the start Extreme Force jumped outwards. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Whitmore (Piper’s Promise) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1200 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Dempster becoming cramped for room and having to be badly checked and lose its position. Sun Blast, which was following, was inconvenienced and had to be taken out. Jockey Whitmore was fined Rs 20,000. Jockey Bekker (Ticket To Space) accidentally dropped his whip near the 100 metres. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Dempster was cut into on the near hind leg. In view of this, trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of fitness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Extreme Force and Sun Blast prior to the race and from Press Line after the race.

■ RACE 3 – THE ROTARY CLUB OF PORT-LOUIS CITADELLE CUP</B>

At an inquiry, it was established that owing to a misunderstanding, jockey Jones was given the ride on Kings Arms when he was unable to ride at the minimum weight. Despite his attempt to lose weight, jockey Jones was unable to make the correct weight on Saturday morning and advised the Stewards accordingly. He was replaced on Kings Arms by jockey Joorawon. In the circumstances, no action was taken against jockey Jones. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Naiko (Waves of Winter) was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that shortly after entering the final straight he successively lost both reins which he only regained after approximately 100 metres, thus riding in an incompetent manner. Jockey Naiko was fined Rs 10,000.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Kings Arms prior to the race and from Pipeline prior to and after the race.

■ <B>RACE 4 – THE SIR CLAUDE NOEL CUP</B>

At the start Modern Mission shifted out and Chopipe shifted in, both horses bumping. Approaching the 300 metres Modern Mission, which had a tendency to hang in, shifted in and was quickly taken out by jockey Neisius, resulting in Chopipe, on its inside, being cramped for room and brushing the running rail.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Salt Lake City prior to the race and from Telaroyal after the race.

■ <B>RACE 5 – THE MANDRON TOURING PARIS CUP</B>

At the start Rambo Royale jumped outwards and raced wide on the first turn. Approaching the 1300 metres, Mister Assembly brushed Longford on its inside which became unbalanced and shifted in onto Swartland, bumping the latter. As a result, Swartland brushed War Council, turned it sideways, causing Swartland to become cramped for room and having to be badly checked. Shortly after entering the final straight Rambo Royale was taken in off the heels of War Council in order to obtain a clear run. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Longford was slightly lame on the off fore leg. In view of this, trainer S. Ramdour was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimen was taken for analysis from Halidom and blood specimen from Rambo Royale after the race.

■ <B>RACE 6 – THE JACQUES VALLET CUP</B>

At the start, Go Spook jumped with its head up and River Siren stood flat footed, both being slow out and losing about one and two lengths respectively. At an inquiry, jockey Bekker (Land Bank) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 53 A. (e) in that he was unable to ride at the minimum weight of 54.5 kg. He was fined Rs 5,000. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Seeking The Gold was lame on the near hind leg and Borzov was slightly lame on the off fore leg. In view of this, trainers C. Ramdin and V. Allet were told that their respective horses will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Greek Flag prior to the race and from Umzinto after the race.

■ <B>RACE 7 – THE PAUL CLARENC CUP</B>

At the start, Bang On Time and Blue Bush were slow out, both losing about one length. At an inquiry into an incident, Jockey Rawa (Barrister) was found guilty under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1200 metres, he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in resulting in Bang On Time (Whitmore) on his inside having to be checked and lose his position. Jockey Rawa was fined Rs 10,000. Passing the 100 metres, Barrister hung in from the whip and had to be straightened. At an inquiry, jockey Naiko (In Her Honour) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 158 (5) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish, which may have deprived it of the fourth place. Jockey Naiko was fined Rs 5,000.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Bang On Time prior to the race and from Rue Royale after the race.

■ <B>RACE 8 – THE DEMDYKE PLATE</B>

At the start, Captain and Guzerat were slow out, both losing about one length. Shortly after the start, Burn The Bridge was slightly cramped for room between Rebus and Cut’Em Up, which had jumped outwards. At an inquiry into an incident, Jockey Teeha (Burn The Bridge) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that passing the 1300 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Cut’Em Up (Herholdt), on his inside, being taken in onto the heels of Surfing Award (Boutanive) and having to be checked. He was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting. Blushing Moon raced fiercely from the 1100 to the 400 metres, throwing its head up when being settled. Near the 1000 metres, Blushing Moon shifted in when being settled, resulting in Brassy Badger having to be eased. Over the last 50 metres Cut’Em Up had difficulty obtaining a clear run behind Blushing Moon and Intrusion. Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Blushing Moon prior to the race and from Surfing Award after the race.
