Fatal accident breedstension in Grand-Gaube

The village of Grand-Gaube was shaken by a fatal accident last Thursday. Louis Clyde Aza,who killed two locals, Prakash Rambhunjun and Lindsay Marie, admitted he had no driving licence. He is provisionally charged with manslaughter and is still detained by the police who have refused him bail. Both victims were riding their bicycles when the driver of the van, which belongs to his boss, bumped into them. Since it was a case of hit and run, inhabitants of Grand-Gaube were very angry and they laid rocks on the main road to show their discontent. Some hundred people also set fire to car tyres. The police finally managed to bring the situation back to normal in the afternoon.

President Jugnauth calls for media responsibility

The President of the Republic, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, seized the opportunity of the annual meeting with the press at State House to send a strong message to the media. He called upon the responsibility of each member of the profession particularly since 2005 will be general elections year.

He asked the press to help make this vital event more serene and to be cautious about making the national interest take precedence over everything else. The President said he is satisfied with the way an increasing number of media has shown themselves responsible on the whole. He also congratulated the press for mobilising all the citizens after the tsunami.

Raouf Bundhun solicits support for Cuttaree

The minister of Foreign affairs and External trade, Jayen Cuttaree, enjoys the support of the whole country in his application as prospective director of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). This is the least we can say. After the prime minister?s encouragement, the president, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, and the vice-president, Raouf Bundhun, have turned to show their support to Jayen Cuttaree. Sir Anerood said that his appointment to this post election would mean that trade will be fairer and more balanced. He added that all developing countries should support this application. As for Raouf Bundhun, he called upon the Indian Diaspora, during his visit in Mumbai for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conference, to give its support to the Mauritian minister in his endeavour.
