Fire kills one woman and her three daughters
Mystery surrounds the fire which occurred at Sweety Gunputh?s at Quatre Cocos, killing Sweety and her three children, 9 year-old Preety, 7 year-old Priya and Anjali, 3. The police tend to believe it was suicide but the investigation is not finished yet. Sweety?s relatives agree with the investigators and say that Sweety was a victim of violence. The police have confirmed this as Sweety had already been to the police station to make a deposition against her husband, Roy. They have also mentioned the fact that she lived in a house with no water or electricity and that she often lacked food for herself and her children. However, the husband?s family denies these allegations and also that she didn?t like her husband?s family. They claim she was a member of a sect.
DNA tests negative for suspects in the Dantier affair
DNA tests are negative for Marcellin Azie, the main suspect in Nadine Dantier?s murder in Albion and for all the other suspects so far. More than two years after the tragic event, the mystery is thus far from being solved. The police intend to ask for other DNA analyses particularly in the case of Eden François, a persistent offender who was out of prison at the time of the crime. Rama Valayden, Marcellin Azie?s lawyer, is likely to ask that the accusations against his client be removed.
No more Ralph Lauren in Mauritius
With the end of the year came the end of an era for the several Ralph Lauren shops in the island. The ones which had decided to ensure the liquidation of their stock and sell their products for next to nothing were able to get rid of nearly all their stock. The shops were crowded with customers all trying to get the best deal. But other shops kept up their prices and they had much difficulty in getting rid of their products. Most of the owners intend to remain in the business and eventually launch their own trademark with the know-how of their factories already there although some lay-offs are expected.
