Lethal end of week</B>
Six families are mourning their dead: one fratricide, three in road accidents and two drowned. After trying to calm down a dispute between her brother and her mother, Christel Adam fatally stabbed brother Ludovic Casimir. The latter, who is said to have been drunk, followed her to her house threatening her with a fragment of broken bottle. Arrested by the police, she claims to have acted in self-defence since he was out of control.
The death of a 31 year-old Deeruthsingh Boodhoo run down by a bus in Fond du Sac nearly turned into a riot. The police had to intervene to calm the villagers who stoned the bus. They said they are angry at the ?irresponsibility? of the authorities. The latter had been warned that the road was dangerous but had not taken appropriate steps.
Finally, a picnic ended in tragedy when an old pirogue in which 12 young men were going to îlôt Bernache was hit by a wave. Ten could swim but Adhip Foolmaun and Ashvind Dindoyal drowned although they were only at 500 metres from the small island. Their bodies were recovered the next day near Poudre d?Or.
CWA plans ahead</B>
A master plan to develop domestic water supply for the next 20 years should be ready by August 2005. The Central Water Authority (CWA) and the European Bank of Investment are both financing this plan. The demand for water has gone up with an increase in population, developments in residential areas and the expansion of tourist and industrial sectors. The study will deal with the short, middle and long-term needs.
Central market born again</B>
The new market Port-Louis, with its impressive architecture, combining wood, stone and corrugated iron, is opening shortly. The tall pillars and wrought iron railings are other stunning parts of the infrastructure. Various shades of brown, varying from terracotta to bronze, lend warmth to the décor. The 336 market gardeners that have for the last two years sold their products in Farquar Street will soon move in. New health standards have been set up. Sellers will not be allowed to wash their vegetables and will have to use sprayers to water them. Food sellers will no longer be able to cook their products on the spot. They will only be authorised to heat them up.

Jean Faivre, the hotel manager, and Philippe Dubois, the owner of the ?Goumard? restaurant in Paris, were both happy to welcome the new Chef, Sylvain Dubreau, who has just arrived from France to take over the kitchens.
