Prince Nicholai, qui avait enlevé sa troisième victoire de la saison le 13 août dernier lors de la 16e journée, a couru sous l’influence d’un anabolic steroid, le norethandrolone. C’est ce qu’a révélé le laboratoire du Mauritius Turf Club et confirmé par celui du Hong Kong Jockey Club. Les Racing Stewards ouvriront une enquête ce matin pour faire la lumière sur cette affaire. La dernière fois qu’un tel incident s’était produit remonte à l’an 2000 quand deux chevaux avaient été testés positifs après leurs victoires, en l’occurrence Royal Dilemma et Pipe Band. Ils avaient participé à la première journée de la saison 2000. Prince Nicholai, lors de la course du 13 août dernier, avait devancé Dr Goodfeel au but.

C’est le 22 août dernier, soit neuf jours après le déroulement de The Tote Off-Course Trophy que Bertrand Baudot, Chief Chemist au MTC, a remis un rapport au secrétaire et General Manager du Club, Benoît Halbwachs, dans lequel mention fut faite de la présence du anabolic steroid dans l’organisme du cheval Prince Nicholai. L’entraîneur du coursier, Alain Perdrau, fut aussitôt contacté et ce dernier décida, par la suite, d’envoyer un second échantillon d’urine aux fins d’analyse au Hong Kong Jockey Club Laboratory.

<B>Stéroïde anabolisant</B>

Les résultats en provenance de Hong Kong ont été obtenus hier. Un rapport, signé par les Drs Wan et Kwok, respectivement Chief Racing Chemist et Chemist du Hong Kong Jockey Club, a confirmé la présence de norethandrolone dans l’échantillon d’urine de Prince Nicholai. Alain Perdrau en a déjà été informé.

Le norethandrolone est un stéroïde anabolisant qui aide le cheval à être mieux dans sa peau et l’empêche, par exemple, de délaisser sa nourriture.

Prince Nicholai sera-t-il disqualifié trois semaines après sa victoire ? À cette question, un officiel du MTC nous a fait comprendre qu’“il faut d’abord donner l’occasion à l’entraîneur de s’expliquer. C’est au terme de l’enquête que les commissaires verront s’il faut disqualifier le cheval ou pas”.

<B>COMMUNIQUÉ DU MTC </B>

On 22 August 2005, the Secretary of the Mauritius Turf Club, Mr Benoît Halbwachs, received a report from the Mauritius Turf Club’s Analyst, Mr Bertrand Baudot, stating that the post race urine sample provided by Prince Nicholai on analysis after it raced and won “The Tote Off-Course Trophy” on 13 August 2005, was found to contain norethandrolone.

Upon receipt of this report, Mr Alain Perdrau, Trainer of Prince Nicholai, was informed by the Secretary of the analyst’s findings. Mr Perdrau, acting under MTC Rule 200 (2) (b), requested that the B-sample of urine be forwarded to a designated laboratory for independent analysis. It was agreed this sample should be forwarded to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Laboratory.

A Certificate of Analysis from Dr Wan and Dr Kwok, respectively Chief Racing Chemist and Chemist of the Hong Kong JockeyClub, was received on the 5th of September in respect of the B-sample of urine taken from Prince Nicholai. They have confirmed that norethandrolone was present in the B-sample. Mr Perdrau has been advised of the analyst’s findings and an inquiry into the matter will be held on 6 September 2005 at 9 a.m in the Stewards’ Room of the Mauritius Turf Club.
