I very much like the rich cultural diversity in Mauritius and the kindness of the people. Here we can do everything we want. We are not confronted to European norms. I also like the evolution speed of society. What I don?t like about Mauritius is the hypocrisy of the people, the poverty which exists, the exploitation of people, and the colonial style which is still present till today. There?s also this segregation and the categorization of people. There?s no real unity but disguised racism. People are classified by names such as creoles or lascars. We glorify certain people because of their white colour and discriminate others. I also dislike the superior standards which maintain certain notorious Mauritian families. There needs to be more solidarity among the Mauritians.

On the economic point of view, Mauritius could have been in a better position with a French or a Britannic flag. There?s also a sort of lethargy in the attitude of Mauritians. We do have lots of difficulties to recruit local labour and we are forced to import foreign workers. The basic salaries are too low and so is the purchasing power. It?s unlivable in such a situation.

Concerning hydroponics, the government has rushed a bit too much with the project. Hydroponic cultivation is not so easy. The agriculturists here are faced with lots of difficulties. We also pay taxes on certain products, which we should not have. The market is not totally free.

On the administrative side, it?s not easy at all. At a certain time, I thought that Mauritius was totally corrupted and I wanted to leave, but with time, you see that there are some honest people who are also doing their jobs. Corruption does form part of the culture. Either you accept it or you leave the country.
