Mr & Miss Northfields 2006
Last Saturday, around 300 people attended the annual “Mr and Miss Northfields” show, at the school. The event was organized by Interact Club, basically a club within the school whose main objective is to make its members interact with less fortunate people by helping them financially or doing voluntary work with them. The club has also been set up to make the student members more aware of other people’s needs in their own community with a world vision. Last Saturday’s show was held to raise funds for less fortunate children.
Saturday’s show was a tremendous success as Rs 30,000 was collected and the organizers have already decided how to use the money. They will have Xmas parties for less fortunate children, make a donation to the Centre d’Accueil of Terre Rouge and sponsor meals for two children of Ste-Claire Catholic Church. They also hope to organise other charitable activities.
But, apart from raising funds for these activities, this now annual event is meant to crown the two best “all-rounders” of the school - Mr. & Miss Northfields. The contest included modelling, singing, dancing and speaking. Representatives of each class participated in the show - 20 in all. For one of them, Alexandra Childs, it was an indescribable experience: “We all had a really great time. At first, it was so nerve-racking but, in the end, we all had lots of fun. I think that everyone on that evening was a winner regardless of the points they were awarded. The amount of courage it took to get up on that stage and perform in front of hundreds of people is immense! And the fact that everyone right from Form I did it is amazing.
The head of Interact Club, Deborah Waller, was very satisfied with the performance of her pupils: “I am thoroughly delighted with the level of achievement of the contestants. Furthermore, what made me even happier was the support from parents and friends of the school.”
The highlight of the evening was the proclamation of the overall winners: Julien Espitalier-Noel and Philippa Waller. But prizes were also given in different categories such as public speaking, singing and dancing.
The headmaster of Northfields, Clive Barnes, was very pleased with the whole initiative: “Like Northfields, competition gets better and better. The event was very well attended. A very good community occasion for the school. It is a pleasure to see how many stakeholders take interest in the school…”
