Interim Report
Race 1 – The Gaston Desjardins Plate
At the start Waste No Words shifted outwards, brushing Sir Winston on its outside, unbalancing the latter, causing it to lose one length and Spacemaster hesitated, was slow out, losing about two lengths. Guzerat raced fiercely from the 1500 to the 1200 metres, throwing its head up when being settled. Passing the 1300 metres Tsavo and Tropical Land were slightly inconvenienced when Shakenotstirred shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice Luxe was shown the video of the incident and told to make sure he is clear before shifting ground. Tsavo raced wide on the final turn and Spacemaster made the turn into the final straight very wide. Who’s Pretending and Intrusion were held up for a run from the 300 metres until entering the final straight and Intrusion brushed the running rail passing the 300 metres. Shortly after entering the final straight, Tsavo was inconvenienced and had to be taken in off the heels of Waste No Words as the latter shifted in. Jockey Bundhoo was shown the video of the incident and told to make sure he is clear before shifting ground. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Guzerat was cut into its off hind hock.
Race 2 – The Alfred Gelle Cup
Jockey Taylor reported that Little Gee raced greenly and jockey Daby reported that Thunder Dust hung in from the 600 metres.
Race 3 – The J. Andre Koenig Cup
At the start Brad My Lad was slow out and Splendid Man reared, losing about one length and two lengths respectively. Jockey Emamdee reported that Splendid Man jumped the crossings a the 1250 and 1000 metres and raced greenly.
Race 4 – The Tottenham Hotspur Souvenir Cup
World Focus raced fiercely from the 1200 to the 600 metres. Jockey Rama reported that Perfect Warrior hung in throughout the race.
Race 5 – The Shell Duchess of York Cup
Passing the 1200 metres, when the pace slowed, Flavius started racing fiercely and threw its head up when being settled. Jockey Naiko reported that Arabian Scent jumped all the crossings and raced greenly throughout the race. Rodriques failed to quicken when asked for an effort from the 600 metres and jockey stanley did not persevere with the latter in the final straight. A subsequent veterinary examination of Rodriques revealed it to be lame on the off hind leg. In view of this report, trainer S. Henry was advised that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.
Race 6 – The Imbel Travel Souvenir Cup
The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Uncle Louis was lame on the near fore leg and was unfit to race.Consequently, the horse was withdrawn at 2.15 p.m. on Saturday. As a result, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened. Trainer Ramesh Gujadhur was advised that Uncle Louis has been suspended from racing until it obtains a veterinary clearance. At the start Danzig’s Trade was slow out, losing about two lengths. From the 200 to the 100 metres, Frequent Dance had a tendency to hang in and proved difficult to be properly assisted.
Race 7 – The Henry Geneve Cup
Shortly after the start, Securitas was inconvenienced when cramped for room between Royal Daredevil and Promise Keeper. From the 700 metres Royal Daredevil started to race very fiercely, proving difficult to control, shifted in, brushing Gun Runner, on its inside. Jockey Naiko reported that Furious raced fiercely and proved difficult to control, throwing its head up when being settled. Jockey Lloyd reported that Major League jumped the crossing at the 400 metres.
Race 8 – The King Sweep Plate
Passing the 700 metres, when the pace slowed down Houston Symphony eased off the heels of Got The Pace and shifted out slightly, resulting in Game Lodge, which was following and racing fiercely, being cramped for room and having to be eased.
