If ever a website deserved the epithet ?green?, then Treehugger.com would be it. So much so in fact that it takes the concept to a whole new level. Recently included in The Times online edition?s

?Top 50 eco blogs? list, Treehugger.com is an environmentalist?s cyber Shangri-La. And it?s all just a click away.

This nifty website has it all: great looks, user-friendliness and especially an abundance of well-written, relevant and irreverent articles. If user-generated content is the future of the Internet, then I?m all for it. Users can start off either by clicking on one of three sections - Get Informed, Interact and Take Action ? at the top of the page or they can scroll down to read one of the 30 daily blog posts (another 17,000 are available in the website?s archive).

What makes blogs so alluring is that readers are able to comment on the posts and even become citizen journalists, thus releasing mainstream media?s stranglehold on information. The blogs often come alive and remain so long after they have been posted as people alternate the bizarre with the bland, the informed with the ill-informed.

Recent blogs include ?Shopping can?t save the planet?, ?Ecocities of tomorrow?, ?Earth Hour: Get out and party like its 1799!? and ?Book swapping is a greener choice for book lovers?, to name but a few.

Another great section is the ?How To Go Green? one, which offers a huge range of sensible and often fun tips on how to lead a more sustainable life. You can, it seems, ?green? almost every aspect of your existence, be it your furniture, wardrobe, work, electricity and, yes, even your sex life!

?It might not be the first thing we think of while working towards a sustainable and graceful life on this fragile planet, but there?s a lot we can do to make our sex lives greener. In the process of greening the ecological footprint of our love making, we might also open up some new doors to deeper pleasure, satisfaction, and romantic connection?, Treehugger.com explains. Most of the tips aren?t as far-fetched as one would be tempted to think. For example, the website advocates Sexy giving (organic massage oils), Green and sexy fun (?showering together can save water? and ?the classic candle-lit dinner is a delicious way to set the mood and save on energy bills?), eco-underwear, bamboo bed sheets and natural aphrodisiacs. Admittedly, the ?How to green your sex life? might not be for everyone. For those of a more serious bent, Treehugger.com has articles on transportation, travel, business, health and culture as well as a ?Jobs? section, dozens of Internet links and podcasts.

The Internet has revolutionized the way we obtain our information. The only problem is that it is so mind-bogglingly vast that getting to what you?re looking for is often a daunting and time-consuming task. Once in a while though, you strike binary gold. Treehugger.com has been described as a sort of ?green CNN?. I beg to differ. Treehugger.com is far better at what it does than CNN will ever be.
