A man and a woman were killed after a grenade apparently exploded accidentally in a hotel room in eastern Ethiopia, police said yesterday.

The man was a member of the army who had been demobilised and the woman was a prostitute. The grenade?s ring was found in the hotel room in the town of Dire Dawa after the blast on Tuesday night.

?There are indications that the bomb that killed a man and a woman occupying a room at Segon Hotel in Dire Dawa may have gone off accidentally?, said Siad Ahmed, the head of information at the Dire Dawa police.

Ethiopia has seen a series of bombings over the past year, most of which have been blamed on rebels.
