The farce
And it’s all over. The Medpoint agreement is no more, its conclusion long overdue. But with a nuance. The three political parties will continue to act as an entity called “the opposition” at the National Assembly. So, the separation is only just “extra-parliamentary.” Confused? Don’t worry. That’s the way the MMM, MSM and PMSD operate.
The problem is that they are unwilling to look at things at face value. MSM leader Pravind Jugnauth says, “We have done the autopsy. It’s now time to look ahead. It’s the future that interests us.” But the past is inextricably linked with the future. If one refuses to acknowledge what went wrong in the past, how does one correct mistakes? MMM leader Paul Bérenger says, “Each of us will regain our freedom of speech and action.” Ah, we’re getting somewhere, now. So all the compromising paralysed the MMM, huh? I like the veiled sentence. In other words, “it’s all the compromising that harmed us. Without the MSM, we’ll be much better off.” Our friend the ostrich will be pleased to know he has friends…
They’ll sleep in separate bedrooms, they say. What’s wrong with moving out? What are they so scared of? Well, you know what? When there’s no love and no passion and no respect in a relationship, one gets a divorce. Before the hypocrisy gets too much and takes over everything that we hold dear in our lives. Before the infidelity gets indecent.
This is exactly what went wrong with this alliance; this is exactly why they are where they are now. They have no passion; they can’t even pretend they do, for God’s sake. We sit and listen to them making their mechanical speeches and they leave us cold. Every word is carefully planned to hide the truth. Every move is studied so as not to give away too much. Any wonder they didn’t arouse any passion in the people?
The demise of the MMM, the MSM and, to a lesser degree, the PMSD, does not make anyone happy; nobody in his right mind could rejoice. We need these political parties; we need these people because we need an opposition, because we need an alternative government, because we need a rampart against eventual abuses of an all too powerful government. This country needs them, democracy needs them. Why? Because power corrupts as the opposition should well know. And so we need them. And they seem keen on letting us down again.
Come on people; give us something we can relate to. The people do not relate to coldness, to lies, to distance. They relate, they respond to warmth and passion. They relate to integrity, to truth. And if you, yourselves, are intent on not looking at truth in the face, how can you convince the people? If you are intent on lying to yourselves, how can you expect them to believe in you?
Wake up from the lull, get out of your cocoon, get real, go and see people, talk to them, feel their pulse, hold them, laugh with them and cry with them. They need you, not as you are but for what you can be. The country needs you, so stop the farce and try some honesty for a change.
