Corinne Robert, journalist
Mauritius is more open to the business world, especially to Asia, which is the prospect market. I came to Mauritius not after seeing only a ?postal card? view of it but I had come here several times before. I have met friends and people from different social backgrounds. I have seen the real face of Mauritius, how people live and how things work here. It?s true that Mauritius has beautiful landscapes and beaches but it?s with a different look that I came here. Mauritians are not fatalistic people at all. They are very optimist indeed. They hare a more entrepreneurial mindset. There?s a risk-taking attitude, which I like very much. The new generation must really be proud of being from the South. They have the potential and the knowledge, which they must use to go forward. I have been lucky to have a multi-cultural background. Wherever I go, I take it with me. I have adapted easily to the country and the culture. We from Reunion Island are well-known for our ?chameleon attitude?, adapting easily to new situations. It?s up to me to adapt to the country and not the other way round.
I?m someone who likes to move a lot, with the aim to discover new horizons and work across borders. Mauritius was the nearest spot to Reunion. I did my studies in Reunion Island, Spain and South Africa. I have done several work placements and I have worked in various media outlets in Reunion Island whether the written press or in audiovisual. I have been in almost every media in Reunion in the four years I spent there. But, here in Mauritius, the quality of life is much better. Being in Mauritius helps me to be close to my country. I do meet lots of people here. I?m learning about this new society. I?m presently working in communication. We must never be afraid of new challenges and go for new opportunities, though I?ll always be journalist.
