Hunger strike day 22: Gandhi still fighting

Mustapha Mohamed is on the 22nd day of his Gandhi-inspired hunger strike. His health is right now on the brink of a serious decline. His main grievance remains that the government still has not accounted for all of the unemployed bank fishermen. There are many families' lives at stake, says he.

He has been on a hunger strike at the Jardin de la Compagnie for the 22nd day now. Mustapha Mohamed, though his health state is on the decline, is adamant: he will not back out. He insists for some action from the authorities. The man, also known as Gandhi, explains that it’s been months now since he is waiting for government’s move as regards the situation of his fellow fishermen.

They have stopped working for years now and there have been promises for job conversion. But till now, they have heard nothing about it. Only vain promises.

«I am not fighting for my own interests but for the families of fishermen. A father needs to work to bring food for his children. The ministry of Fisheries has not cared to inform us of anything. They have not carried out what they promised. There has been no action in three months», cries out Mustapha Mohamed, whom we met yesterday.
