A fool?s paradise?
How sad to see all of the recent painstaking progress that has taken place in this beautiful island being wasted by a ?don't care less attitude? by the authorities. Every day there are reports of crime, many on unsuspecting tourists. Sunday?s is a classic example of yet another robbery in Flic-en-Flac on 6 young girls who understandably curtailed their holiday as a result. We are aware of specific similar incidents which point towards ?inside jobs? What can anybody possibly do to guard against this? Quite simple, give Mauritius a miss, there are plenty of other places vying for tourists, probably cheaper.
Yet in the same edition there is a major article ? ?its important to get the structures right to accommodate 2 million visitors?. Absolutely no mention of the rampant crime figures.
Wake up Mauritius, you are all living in Paradise, but I am afraid that this is probably a fool?s paradise unless somebody recognises the problem and reminds your Police chiefs that they have a responsibility beyond traffic control.
I wonder what those girls are saying back in the UK about Mauritius? By all means come, but pick up a Security guard at the Airport?
I keep raising this subject but never get an acknowledgement.
