Time to wake up

Mouth-watering reports of most jubilant atmosphere in the streets of the world?s great cities at the ultimate midnight strike, which unveiled 2008 only but stressed the dull ambience swaying ours on that memorable time of the year. Outside the absence of concerts and animations on this most auspicious day, the want in appropriate decorations in some localities can either be interpreted as a ?we don?t care? message or a lack of innovating ideas from a country otherwise in tune with the latest technologies.

While we are starting a new year, which furthermore ends up our quarantine period as an independent nation, would it not be desirable if we could scrap those old-fashioned street decorations consisting of steady ordinary multicoloured incandescent lamps, which I bet are not even eco friendly ? This is a shameful anachronism, which shows how dull festivities were in a remote past if we, of course, put them in today?s context.

Fortunately enough affordable twinkling electric eels and other glittering hi-tech devices that marvellously enliven even the most modest households flooded images from around the world provided by a large array of local and cable channels. Why should we let a resourceful nation which benefits from no less capable authorities dig into the fields of mediocrity while it can fly proudly into innovative and less foolishly thrifty skies.
