<B>?She made things real for us?
?My best teacher, and the one I remember the most was a lady who was quite old, called Cianetta Bouvet. She was my geography teacher in Forms IV and V, when I was at Loreto Convent Quatre-Bornes. As a teacher, I should say that she was very different from the others I had. The first difference was that she did not rely too much on the actual syllabus.
Cianetta Bouvet was passionate about her subject and used to teach us geography through history. As an example, when she had to explain to us about ?Chaussée Street?, she made us understand that before it used to be at the edge of the sea. By listening to her, many classmates and I could imagine and visualise how things were. It was great to learn this way! It was also a tremendous way help us remember things. When we had to learn geology, Cianetta Bouvet took us to Albion to examine strata. She walked us along the Albion cliff, to look at the different strata in the earth.
Her class was so interesting! She got us to think in a different way. I may say that her approach influenced me to get involved in social work as I am today. From then on, I gave more consideration to the real side of life especially since I am a very practical person.

Cianetta Bouvet had an impressive personality. Maybe one of the reasons why I appreciated her was because she was very open-minded. She was very jovial and full of energy. One thing I will definitely never forget is the fact that at 60 years of age, she was still climbing trees. When I saw that I was extremely surprised.
I had never done Geography before doing it with her, only at CPE level, which was la ?petite bourse? at that time. In Forms IV and V, we had to study things like meteorology, geology and things like that. She made me fall in love with the subject. As a result, I took it as one of my HSC subjects. However, at that time, Loreto Quatre-Bornes was not offering it at HSC level. So, I moved to Loreto Rose-Hill.
Coincidently, the one who eventually became my teacher at Loreto Rose-Hill, was a former student of Cianetta Bouvet. Therefore, she had many similarities with her. There was another teacher very much like Cianetta Bouvet whom I had at the University. It was Professor Joyce who was teaching psychology. Those three teachers really impressed me!
There were teachers who made me dislike the subjects I was studying. For example, when I was in Form I, I had a Commerce teacher who made me hate the subject because of her unfairness. She would give us tests and evaluate us on topics we had never done.
For me, a good teacher is someone who makes you love the subject, and someone who knows how to stimulate a desire to learn in the student. This is why I appreciated the three first teachers I named. They were free-thinkers and had a very innovative approach in their ways of teaching. Their methods were simply fascinating!?
