The four winners of the National Spelling Bee competition finals have been awarded their prizes. The seventh edition of this American competition, organised in Mauritius by the English Speaking Union (ESU) was held last Wednesday at Curepipe Town hall in the presence of the public affairs officer of the US Embassy, which co-sponsored the event, Victoria Delong (centre in the back row on the picture).

The organisers from the ESU – Sharmilla Bhima, Sir Victor Glover, the president, and Lina So (from left to right in the back row) – were happy to note that the level of the students “keeps on going up”. This year, the “hidden theme” was the environment in view of the major ecological events that have occurred recently.
