Une lettre de Harish Boodhoo

?What are our demands to the Prime Minister? We are pressing for a high-level, full-fledged, efficient and respectful Commission of Inquiry. It should be unlike all the previous politically-oriented ones. It should have a strong, respectful, forwardlooking and independent-minded chairman with some five to seven assessors. The latter can come from the fields of the accountancy, banking, notary and judicial sectors. Attach a strong team of Police, Finance and State Law Officers. Let all the proceedings be in public. Let the Commission hear all the past and present case. Let it delve deeply into all suspicious cases where there could have been serious miscarriages of justice. Let it comb all the bank accounts and wealth of the mafia which is operating at the Supreme Court and elsewhere. Let if refer all such findings to a proper Court of Law. Let the latter deal with them quickly and efficiently. I bet there will be a wake-up call in the country. The population will rise as one solid bloc to relieve the society of the scourtes of corruption. Accept my bet. The mafia, all throughout the country, will be on the run. Fresh air will restart blowing. We badly need that high-profile Commission of Inquiry?

The representatives of the victims met the PM in his office sometime in August this year. He promised the earth and the moon. Nothing concrete till now! He?s in a hurry to go on vacations. Can we and should we believe such a Prime Minister/man/politician? Whatever commitments he?ll undertake, he?ll have to do so in front of Father Labour, Mawlana Haroon, Pandit Ved Gopee, Mr Georges Ah Yan, Mr Toolsyraj Benydin and five representatives of the victims. Otherwise, we?ll continue our strike?
