Surfer dies after having been attacked by a shark
Sébastien Edmond, a 34-year-old surfer, who suffered a sustained and frenzied attack by a shark , only a few meters from the shore off the island of Reunion died of his injuries yesterday.
According to press reports on Sunday, Edmond had his arm torn off while surfing with his two friends at a spot known as the Pointe du Diable, near the town of Saint Pierre and was in a critical state when his two freinds took him to hospital.
Shark attacks often occur at this site and despite warnings from the local authorities many surfers are ready to face the dangers in their never-ending search for thrills.
The last deadly attack off Reunion island occurred in 1999 where a swimmer was killed by a ‘bulldog’ shark.
